According to the press release issued by The Union of Journalists in Finland, the collective agreement negotiations between two large audiovisual translation agencies and their freelancers are progressing well and could soon produce results.
The representatives for the audiovisual translators, SDI Media and Pre-Text continued perfecting the collective agreement involving the translation agencies and their freelance translators on November 3rd 2010.
Both parties strive to draft a collective agreement for the audiovisual translation field which ensures fair terms for audiovisual translation agencies' freelancers, comparable to the terms for translators working directly for Finnish TV channels.
The Yhtyneet Agreement, which is the current collective agreement of freelancers working for the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE and the commercial channel MTV3, is used as a starting point.
The proposal of fees, drafted by the freelance translators, is based on the minimum fees and wages of the translators working directly for Finnish TV channels.
Negotiations were held in good spirit. Some details in the text are still to be negotiated but both parties believe that a solution can be reached in the near future.
(Negotiations will continue on December 1st 2010.) The schedule has changed: the negotiations will continue on December 14th 2010.
