The collective agreement negotiations continued in Finland

The collective agreement negotiations which started in the spring continued on 24 August 2010 in good spirit. The negotiating parties are the AV translation companies Pre-Text and SDI Media Helsinki and their freelance translators.

The letter of intent signed by the parties in the spring is now used as a basis for the actual agreement, which is to apply to all of the Finnish TV channels. The starting point is the Yhtyneet agreement, which is the current collective agreement of freelancers working for the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE and the commercial channel MTV3.

The aim of the negotiations is to improve the translators’ working conditions and fees, so that the undercutting of prices, which has long plagued the branch, is stopped. Broadcast Text International, the biggest AV translation company in Finland, opted out of the negotiations in May.
